ARM CONTOURING

The upper arms can develop excess fat, loose skin or both. Arm liposuction and brachioplasty (arm lift) are procedures designed to create a slimmer, firmer and more defined arm contour.

Arm Liposuction

Arm liposuction is best suited for patients who have excess fat with relatively good skin elasticity. Small, strategically placed incisions are used to remove unwanted fat and improve the shape of the upper arm. It is ideal for people who are bothered by bulky upper arms but do not have significant loose or hanging skin. A compression garment or supportive sleeve will be recommended after surgery.

Brachioplasty — Arm Lift

Brachioplasty is designed for patients who have significant loose, hanging skin, often after substantial weight loss, ageing or changes in body weight. After adequate liposuction, excess skin is removed and the remaining tissues are tightened and reshaped to create a firmer, smoother arm contour with the scar stretegically placed in an inconspicuous location. You may be a good candidate if you :

* Have persistent upper-arm fat despite weight management.

* Have loose or hanging skin that does not tighten

* Feel self-conscious about the appearance of your arms in sleeveless clothing.

* Have realistic expectations about the results and scars.

The Brachioplasty Scar

Unlike liposuction, a brachioplasty requires a longer scar, because excess skin has to be removed. The scar is usually placed along the inner or inner-back aspect of the upper arm, extending from the armpit towards the elbow depending on how much skin needs to be removed. The exact length and position are planned to keep it as concealed as reasonably possible.

The scar is permanent but usually fades and softens with time. Its final appearance varies between individuals depending on skin type, healing and genetics.

The aim is not simply thinner arms, but well-contoured, proportionate and natural-looking arms.
