RHINOPLASTY—Nose Reshaping

Rhinoplasty is a specialised facial aesthetic surgery designed to improve the shape, size, projection and proportions of the nose while maintaining or enhancing nasal function.Rhinoplasty may involve hump reduction, nasal bone reshaping and osteotomies to refine the nasal framework and create a more harmonious profile.

There is no single ideal nose. The goal of rhinoplasty is to create a nose that is proportionate to the face, structurally stable and naturally integrated with the patient’s individual features rather than producing an artificial or overly operated appearance. Every procedure begins with a detailed assessment of facial proportions, skin thickness, nasal structure and anatomy , and aesthetic goals.

Depending on the patient’s anatomy and requirements, septal, ear (conchal) or rib cartilage may be used to provide substantial structural support. In carefully selected patients, silicone nasal implants may also be considered for augmentation, particularly when increased dorsal height is desired. The choice of graft or implant is individualised.

Concerns that can be addressed

* Prominent dorsal hump and a straightening of the nasal profile

* Broad or crooked nose

* Wide nasal bones

* Drooping, bulbous or poorly defined nasal tip

* Low or inadequate nasal projection

* Wide nostrils or excessive alar flare

* Alar base reduction to create better nasal proportions

* Functional concerns associated with structural nasal abnormalities

Rhinoplasty is not simply about changing the nose—it is about creating facial harmony while preserving function and individuality
